Environmental Planning & Restoration
RANA Environmental Planning Department excels in the assessment, restoration, and management of native California habitats - from the Central Coast, to mountain and desert landscapes, to the urban interface. Our services include permit processing, multi-agency coordination, biological assessments, botanical surveys, G.I.S and spatial analysis, landscape restoration plans, mitigation & compliance monitoring, habitat conservation and resource management planning. Project execution ranges from seed collection and native plant propagation, to planting, erosion control, irrigation, maintenance, monitoring, technical reporting, and adaptive management. Our integrated design, planning, and restoration services provide practical solutions and help achieve permit compliance for a range of public and private clients.

Living Architecture
RANA has been a perennial pioneer in the design and construction of living architectural systems. Our living wall and roof portfolio spans two decades and ranges from small-scale residential projects to large landmark installations including the California Academy of Sciences. These living works of art enliven our urban environments while creating habitat and serving critical ecological functions of climate regulation, energy conservation, rainwater infiltration, water conservation, carbon sequestration, and more. Water system and irrigation design is an integral part of RANA’s approach to living architecture. Each living wall or roof we design and create is totally unique, and frequently becomes culturally iconic, representative of a commitment to sustainability, and a celebration of our place in the natural world.
Master Planning
RANA assists clients across the public and private sectors in conceiving the best possible short and long-term land use plans to achieve thriving and resilient landscapes and communities. The planning process often includes creation of a G.I.S. (geographic information system) to assist interpretation of opportunities and constraints and aid understanding of landscape ecology, infrastructure, and cultural context. Phased planning is generated according to value-driven goals and desired performance metrics to improve ecological, social, and economic capacity and resilience. RANA has conducted conceptual planning, sustainability planning and landscape master plan work for neighborhoods, campuses, eco-resorts, and the island of Lanai.
