Katie Rose Rice

Biologist and restoration specialist

Katie Rose has led and conducted complex research, conservation and adaptive management-based projects for NOAA's National Marine Sanctuaries in Monterey, the Smithsonian Tropical Reserarch Institute in Panama, the Charles Darwin Research Institute in the Galapagos, the Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Research in Germany, and UC Berkeley. She holds a BS in Enviornmental Science, with a concentration in Biology, from UC Berkeley and a MS in Aquatic Ecology from University of Bremen, Germany. Her interdisciplinary research findings inform her understanding that personal connection with our direct natural environment lies at the heart of successful long-term conservation and motivate her mission to comprehensively understand, protect, restore, educate on, and inspire stewardship of the natural environment in multifaceted ways. 

At RANA, Katie Rose applies her interdisciplinary background and extensive knowledge of California native flora, fauna, ecosystem dynamics, and environmental policy & regulations towards comprehensive long-term biological monitoring and analyses at our restoration sites, as well as provides site-specific management recommendations to support optimal ecological functioning. 

Katie Rose also owns and manages a place-based, wild-foraged tea business, Woven Herbs, founded with the initiative to educate Monterey County residents on native plants to foster deeper connection with our local natural environment. She currently resides in Big Sur where she spends her free time foraging, wild-crafting, and tending to her bees and alpacas.
